                                            MUSCULAR SYSTEM

 

Students should be able to:

 

  1. Know the muscular system and what study of muscles are called
  2. Know all the five functions of the muscles and their brief definition.
  3. Know the anatomy of a muscle and know the following structures: endomysium, fascicles, perimysium, epimysium, fasciae, .
  4. Know the types of attachment to the muscles
  5. Know the general anatomy of skeletal muscle: fusiform muscle, parallel muscle, convergent muscle, pinnate muscle, circular muscle.
  6. know the coordinated action of muscle group: prime mover, synergist, antagonist, fixator.
  7. know the intrinsic and extrinsic muscles.
  8. Know the muscle innervation
  9. Know the location of the muscles: masseter, orbicularis major, sternocleidomastoid, pectoralis minor, pectoralis major, serratus anterior, rectus abdominis, transverse abdominis, internal abdominal oblique, external abdominal oblique, Gracilis, gastrocnemius, soleus, extersor digitorum longus, tibialis anterior, fibularis longus, vastus medialis, vastus lateralis, rectus femoris, sartorius, adductor longus, tensor faciae latae, flexor carpi radialis, brachoradialis, biceps brachii, pectoralis major, platsma, zygomaticus major, orbicularis oculi, frontalis, deltoid, serratus anterior, serratus posterior inferior, external abdominal oblique, internal abdominal oblique, flexor ulnaris, latissimus dorsi, gluteus medius, gluteus maximus, trapezius, triceps brachii, trapezius, occipitalis, latissimus dorsi, gracilis, soleus, biceps femoralis, gastrocnemius.

 

  1. Know the role of the muscle in the cheek….buccinator
  2. Know the extrinsic structures that connect tongue to head and neck.
  3. know the hyoid muscles
  4. Know the role of pharyngeal constrictors, thyrohyoid, sternothyroid.
  5. Know the fexor muscles of the neck
  6. Know the extensor muscles namely: trapezius
  7. Know the muscles of respiration, abdomen, back and pelvic floor.
  8. Know the muscles of the forearm, wrist and hand
  9. Know the muscles acting on hip and lower limb.
  10. Know the role of Iliopsoas, hamstring muscles and calf muscles
  11. Know the crural muscles.
  12. Know what are the sphincter muscles.
  13. Know the three plantar flexors: gastrocnemius, soleus and plantaris
