  3. Know the layer that the dermis rests on.
  4. Know the layers of the epidermis in order and know the types of cells that are in each layer.  Know the function of each cell type.
  5. Know what keratin and melanin are and know their functions.
  6. Know which layer is only present in thick skin.
  7. Know the dermal layers in order and know the characteristics and composition of each.
  8. Understand the relationship between dermal papillae and fingerprints.
  9. Know the different names for the hypodermis and know the composition and functions of the hypodermis.
  10. Know what part of the integument is vascular.
  11. Know the substances that give our normal skin color.
  12. Know the function of melanin.
  13. Know the abnormal skin colors and what causes them.

  12. Know the causes of burns and know why burns can lead to death.
  13. Understand the differences between first, second, and third degree burns.
  14. Know how burns are treated.
  15. Know the different types of skin grafts.
  16. know about the skin disease ‘vitiligo’. (why does the skin turn white, how is it treated, why can’t vitiligo patients have fun in the sun, etc.)
