Research Paper Instructions

The topic of your paper must be on one of the organ systems below and the paper is due on July 20, 2005 by 1:00PM.

You may start by using your Biology textbook but an Anatomy & Physiology book would be more useful.  You should also use the Alabama Virtual Library (AVL), which you can access from any computer if you have your AVL access card.

You must use at least 5 different sources and your paper must contain a ‘work cited’ page, a cover page, and the body must be at least 6 pages of text double-spaced.  Font size must be between 12 and 13.  Illustrations may also be used but they do not count toward your 6 pages of text.

Here are the topics you must choose from:

  1. Integumentary System (Skin)
  2. Skeletal System (bones and joints)
  3. Muscular System
  4. Nervous System I (nerve cells, nerves, spinal cord, brain, psychology)
  5. Nervous System II- Special Senses (vision, hearing, taste and smell)
  6. Endocrine System (Glands & Hormones)
  7. Cardiovascular System (heart, blood vessels, blood)
  8. Lymphatic (Immune) System (body defenses against infection)
  9. Digestive System
  10. Respiratory System
  11. Excretory (Urinary) System
  12. Male and Female Reproductive System

For your chosen topic, you need to explain the structure and function of the organ system.  You need to describe the organs that make up the system and discuss their individual functions.  You should also discuss some specific diseases that affect the organ system and how the diseases disrupt the function of the organ system.

PLAGIARISM WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.  Your research must be done on your own and you will receive a zero for using someone else’s work.  This includes copying information word for word from the Internet, from textbooks or other print material without giving credit to the authors.

As always, if you have questions you may come by my office, call or email me at twilson@lawsonstate.edu
