The University of South Alabama BEAR program – The University of South Alabama offers conditional acceptance into their medical school if you successfully complete two summers in the BEAR program.  You must attend the summer after your sophomore year.  See Dr. Wilson for information.

UAB-Summer Medical Education Program (SMEP) is a six-week medical enrichment program conducted by the University of Alabama School of Medicine (UASOM) on the campus of the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). program description:  This six-week intensive program utilizes the facilities and resources of four top Chicago medical schools to provide highly motivated minority students with an integrated, science-oriented curriculum designed to strengthen their competitiveness for medical school admission. Orientation sessions include MCAT pre-testing and counseling to allow students to be divided into groups according to their current skills, knowledge, and college level. Based at Northwestern University Medical School, where all 125 participants live and enjoy social and combined group activities, each group follows a carefully structured study program at the University of Chicago, Rush, or Loyola.

During the first week, participants are divided into two groups: those who plan to take the MCAT and those who don't. Room and board and a stipend of $600 is provided. program description:  This program is designed for those entering college or college freshmen, and focuses on strengthening academic skills and building motivation. Our curriculum enhances learning in science, written English, and public speaking and provides opportunities to develop learning and study skills. The surrounding city of Pittsburgh is an important element in the instruction, as coursework is supplemented by field trips and a community service project. All students follow the same course curriculum, and the courses do not grant college credit. The program is limited in size so students can receive individualized personal support and academic counseling. Courses are developed and taught by University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and affiliated faculty. The summer culminates in a presentation of an independent research project to which all SPAEP faculty and students are invited.
